Children & Adolescent Counseling
Helping Young People Navigate Big Feelings, Growing Up, and Everything In Between
Growing up can be hard.
Children and teenagers are learning how to understand their emotions, manage relationships, handle expectations, cope with change, and figure out who they are—all while navigating a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
At Creative Counseling & Wellness Center, I provide virtual counseling for children and adolescents ages 6–17 throughout Texas. My goal is to create a supportive, age-appropriate space where young people can feel heard, develop healthy coping skills, build confidence, and learn better ways to manage life's challenges.
Currently offering 100% virtual counseling throughout Texas.
Sometimes Behavior Is Communication
Children don't always have the words to say:
- "I'm anxious."
- "I'm overwhelmed."
- "Something doesn't feel right."
- "I'm having trouble fitting in."
- "I don't know how to handle what I'm feeling."
Instead, parents may notice changes in behavior, mood, sleep, school performance, friendships, or family relationships.
Counseling can help children begin identifying what they're experiencing and develop healthier ways to communicate and cope.
Children Ages 6–12
For younger children, counseling looks different than it does for adults. Sessions are adapted to the child's developmental level and may incorporate conversation, creative activities, problem-solving, games, skill-building, and other age-appropriate strategies.
Areas we may work on include:
- Anxiety and fears
- Worry
- Emotional regulation
- Anger and frustration
- Behavioral concerns
- ADHD-related challenges
- School stress
- Peer and friendship difficulties
- Social skills
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Family changes
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
- Coping with change
Parent or caregiver involvement may be incorporated when appropriate.
Adolescents Ages 13–17
Being a teenager means navigating increasing independence while still needing support. School pressure, friendships, social media, relationships, family expectations, identity, future decisions, and rapidly changing emotions can sometimes feel overwhelming. Therapy gives adolescents a place to talk openly without feeling that they must have everything figured out.
Areas of support may include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Stress and feeling overwhelmed
- Emotional regulation
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Peer relationships
- Social concerns
- Family conflict
- School-related stress
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
- Life transitions
- Boundaries
- Healthy coping skills
- Preparing for increasing independence
The goal isn't to tell teenagers what to think.
It's to help them develop the skills to think, cope, communicate, problem-solve, and make healthier decisions for themselves.
What About Parents?
Parents and caregivers are important members of a child's support system. The amount of parent involvement will depend on the child's age, developmental needs, treatment goals, and individual circumstances.
Part of working with children and adolescents involves balancing appropriate parent involvement with the young person's need for a trusting therapeutic relationship.
We'll discuss expectations for communication and confidentiality at the beginning of treatment so everyone understands how the process will work.
Is Counseling Right for My Child?
You don't need to have a diagnosis before reaching out. If you've noticed changes in your child's emotions, behavior, relationships, school functioning, or ability to cope—or you simply feel that your child could benefit from having someone to talk with—we can discuss what's happening and whether counseling may be appropriate.
Virtual Counseling for Children & Teens
Creative Counseling & Wellness Center currently provides virtual counseling throughout Texas. Telehealth can work very well for many young people, particularly when they are comfortable using technology and have access to a private space for sessions. Before beginning, we'll consider whether virtual counseling is clinically appropriate for your child's age, needs, circumstances, and treatment goals.
In-person counseling services are planned for the future.
Sometimes the first step is simply asking the question.
