Couples and Family Counseling

Strengthening Relationships and Helping Families Move Forward

Relationships and families can experience seasons of conflict, disconnection, stress, and unexpected change. Couples and family counseling provides a supportive, nonjudgmental place where everyone can feel heard, better understand one another, and work toward healthier relationships.

Whether you are seeking marital therapy, support for another committed relationship, or help addressing concerns affecting the entire family, counseling can provide practical tools for communicating, resolving conflict, and moving forward together.

Family Counseling

When one family member is struggling, it often affects the entire family. Family counseling can help families understand how individual experiences, communication patterns, and changing circumstances influence their relationships with one another.

Family counseling may help with:

  • Parent-child conflict
  • Communication difficulties
  • Frequent disagreements
  • Behavioral or emotional concerns
  • Family transitions
  • Separation or divorce
  • Blended-family adjustment
  • Grief, illness, or trauma affecting the family
  • Changes in family roles
  • Caregiving responsibilities
  • Establishing healthier boundaries
  • Rebuilding trust and connection

Depending on the family’s needs, counseling may include the entire family, selected family members, parent consultation, or a combination of approaches.

Couples and Marital Counseling

Couples and marital therapy may help partners who are experiencing:

  • Communication difficulties
  • Frequent arguments or unresolved conflict
  • Emotional distance or loss of connection
  • Trust concerns
  • Differences in expectations, priorities, or values
  • Parenting or blended-family challenges
  • Stress related to work, finances, health, or caregiving
  • Major life transitions
  • Difficulty making important decisions together
  • A desire to strengthen an already healthy relationship

As a Gottman-trained therapist, I incorporate research-informed strategies to help couples recognize unhealthy patterns, improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen friendship and emotional connection.

Couples counseling is not about deciding who is right or taking sides. It is about helping both partners express their concerns respectfully, understand the relationship more clearly, and take responsibility for the changes within their control.

Couples counseling may be appropriate for dating, engaged, married, or long-term committed partners. You do not have to wait until your relationship is in crisis to ask for support.

What We May Work On

Each couple and family is different. Counseling will be shaped around your concerns, values, strengths, and goals.
Together, we may work on:

  • Listening without immediately becoming defensive
  • Expressing needs and concerns more clearly
  • Managing conflict without causing additional harm
  • Identifying patterns that keep relationships stuck
  • Establishing healthy boundaries
  • Strengthening problem-solving skills
  • Rebuilding emotional safety and trust
  • Increasing appreciation and connection
  • Adjusting to changes in family roles
  • Creating shared goals and expectations

Take the Next Step

Seeking counseling does not mean your relationship or family has failed. It means you recognize that your relationships deserve attention, support, and the opportunity to grow.

A Balanced and Respectful Approach

Every person enters counseling with a different perspective. My role is to create a balanced environment where each participant is treated with dignity and encouraged to speak honestly and listen respectfully. The goal is not to identify one person as “the problem.” Instead, we will explore the patterns affecting the relationship or family and identify healthier ways of responding to one another.

Virtual Couples and Family Counseling

Couples, marital, and family counseling is currently provided through secure telehealth appointments. Virtual sessions allow family members to participate from a private, comfortable location without the additional time and stress of traveling to an office.

Before beginning, we will discuss who should participate, where each person will join from, and how to maintain privacy during virtual sessions.
